Office Discussion Area Design: Tables, Light and Power

A client turns to the next drawing and glare washes out the details. Across the table, a pulled-out stool blocks the aisle. An office discussion area succeeds or fails on details like these. M&W plans furniture, lighting, acoustics and power together, starting from how long people stay, what they discuss and what they need on the table.

Match the Table to the Length of the Meeting

High tables suit brief exchanges, but do not specify them exclusively — visitors and long writing sessions need standard height. When drawing the plan, check knee clearance, pull-out distance and the space behind occupied seats.

Window-side seating suits informal conversation, but every seat has to be checked for screen reflection and direct sun. Three moves solve most of it: matte table surfaces, local task lighting above the table, and seating that avoids the worst of the afternoon sun. Matte finishes plus task lighting are what make drawings and material samples readable — the point most often missed in showrooms, which rarely have real window light.

A coffee point next to the discussion area keeps meetings from breaking up. Group the machine, water and cleanup on one side, and leave a dry surface on the other for laptops, documents and samples — separating wet and dry is what keeps drawings out of a puddle.

Before finalising the table, mark the power feed, under-table cable routing, outlet orientation and service access. Curved edges can follow the corner, and finishes that match reception and nearby workstations make the area read as part of the same space.

What Should You Provide?

Send M&W a floor plan marking main circulation, power locations and intended uses. We help plan the layout, specify furniture and coordinate production and delivery. Project delivery typically takes 15–30 days (sofa production alone takes around 25 days), subject to configuration, quantity and the confirmed schedule.
