Private Cubicle

A private office cubicle is a workstation surrounded by higher partition panels to provide greater visual separation and fewer distractions than a standard open-office cubicle. Some configurations can also include a sliding or swing door, creating a more defined workspace within an open-plan office.

Private cubicles are suitable for managers, supervisors and employees who need longer periods of focused work. They can also support roles involving frequent video calls, document review or sensitive information. However, the required level of acoustic and information privacy should be evaluated separately.

A private cubicle is generally constructed from modular partition panels and may remain open at the top. It provides visual privacy and helps define an individual workspace. An office pod is usually a more fully enclosed structure with its own ceiling and may include dedicated lighting, ventilation and tested acoustic performance.

Private cubicles should not automatically be considered soundproof. Higher panels, doors and acoustic surface materials may reduce some visual and sound distractions, but speech can still travel through the open ceiling, door gaps and surrounding building surfaces. Confidential conversations may require an enclosed acoustic room or office pod.

A sliding door does not require a door-swing area, making it useful where circulation space is limited. A swing door offers a familiar opening method but requires sufficient clearance inside or outside the cubicle. The choice should consider the room layout, access route, handle position and local accessibility requirements.

The required space depends on the desk size, number of users, storage, chair movement, door type and any visitor seating. The layout must also preserve comfortable access and nearby circulation. A dimensioned floor plan is needed to determine whether a single-person workstation, executive cubicle or small meeting configuration will fit properly.

Glass sections or lower upper panels can allow more daylight to enter while preserving separation at seated height. Because many private cubicles are open at the top, they normally rely on the building’s existing ventilation system. Panel height and placement should not block air supply, return vents or lighting.

High-panel or door-equipped cubicles may affect sprinkler coverage, smoke detection, emergency routes, ventilation and accessible entry. Requirements vary by country, building and project type. The final layout should be reviewed by the relevant local professionals before production and installation.

Selected M&W private cubicle systems can route power and data cables through internal channels, with wiring introduced from the floor, wall or ceiling depending on site conditions. Storage, shelves and hanging accessories may also be added where the selected panel system provides compatible support.

Provide a dimensioned floor plan, required quantity, number of users, preferred cubicle size, panel height, door type, desk and storage requirements, power and data points, preferred finishes and delivery destination. If privacy or acoustic performance is especially important, describe the intended work activities so M&W can recommend a more suitable configuration.
