Contemporary office in a century-old building, a spatial continuation of interior and exterior

2023-12-13

This is an old factory building located in the Nanjing National Leading Talent Entrepreneurship

Park. The many buildings in the park are like compact islands that form an archipelago. There

is rarely a suitable angle to observe 40# in all directions, so we get the slightly awkward

perspective shown in the photo.

In this design, the team wants to complete 2,300 square meters of first-class office space, and

add the original building from 4 floors to 5 floors, further improve the auxiliary service system

to meet the needs of the development of Jinji City Company, enhance team cohesion, and

strengthen The role of confidence in future development.

The design retains the rustic temperament of the original building and conveys a slight anti-urban

tendency. The connection with the land and surroundings is the most important feature of the

ground floor. By using transparent texture, the street side is no longer limited to the enclosure of

space, but repeatedly emphasizes the continuation of interior and exterior spaces. The relatively

public and relatively private spaces are harmoniously combined in the interweaving of interior and

exterior.

The architectural experience has been carefully organized on the outside of the building, and many

unique and layered details add to the drama of the space.

The external site uses the loose weaving of artificial forms to hint at the boundaries of the

radiating field, while at the entrance, from the inside to the outside, the architectural space

is continuously derived, and the hazy oriental narrative context slowly sings the romantic

mystery of the lonely creator.

Compared with the "emptiness" of the ground floor, the upper part of the building retains its

"solid" character. The building is not huge in size, but it creates an interior world with strong

characteristics that leaves a deep impression on people.

The centripetal shape of the square and the steady transfer of forces become the dominant features

of the building plan. The long strip volume and inherent column structure of the original building

determine the direction of the axis and baseline. One or more vertical secondary axes are set

according to the difference in functional tendency of each layer, and further developed into an

organizational skeleton.

The motivation for office space organization is very clear. There is not too much emphasis on order

and hierarchy. Functional locations are simply set according to actual needs in order to bring the

intimacy of the environment closer. The partially streamlined office setting evokes a sense of floating,

and the coordination of individual combinations and universal concepts constitutes the planar

character of this scheme. The vertical direction is trying to balance with the plane.

Since the original building structure is not enough to support a large-area atrium, a small double-

storey atrium was chosen in this case, rising alternately in the wall and space, using the sky as the

territory, and completing the release in the skylight courtyard at the top.

On the main functional floors 2F-4F, a large service area is combined with the transportation space

to ensure the continuation of the space for communication. The fitness service system located on

the 5th floor brings all this to a climax.

The temperament is classic, the colors are bright, and the texture is exquisite, humbly praising the

natural properties of the material. The atmosphere here is relaxed and free of oppression. Everyone

can share a large space and share a common moment, which will give users a sense of pride in the

place.

The establishment of the "micro-atrium" form breaks the bland layout of a single-story plane,

embodies a compact centripetal consciousness in part, and refines the architectural core of

collective consciousness.
